Hanukkah is also known as the Festival of Lights. This Jewish festival commemorates the recovery of Jerusalem and rededication of the Second Temple. This year Hanukkah is celebrated: December 7th – December 15th. For Jewish Americans, this time of year is celebrated with the blue and white (and sometimes silver) of Hanukkah and playing the dreidel game. One candle is lit on the first night of Hanukkah, and one candle is lit per night until the menorah is fully lit at the end of the eight-day period.
