September is national preparedness month. So are you prepared? Are you ready for rainstorms, snowstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, tidal waves, mudslides, volcanoes, floods, droughts, earthquakes, fire and more? Here are a few tips to help you get prepared –
- Stay alert to the news
- Stay away from the windows during a bad storm
- Seek shelter in a safe place
- Put water in your bathtub or washer to use for cleaning and flushing toilets as needed
- Kids can play these games to get prepared for a disaster
- Build a game preparedness kit
- Play the Ready 2 Help card game
- Put extra water and blankets in your car
- Put a three day supply of food and water in a backpack
- Practice trying to stay safe, stay calm, get help, give info. and give care
Homeschoolers/Educators/Parents: Sketch/color an illustration. Theme: prepared. List five ways to be prepared. Read the story called Squirrel Nutkin in Learning to Read: Fairy Tale Adventures (Kindle/Audiobook/Paperback). Put these words in alphabetical order: squirrel, nuts, island, lake, mole. Use the word “prepared” in a sentence. Explain why the squirrels wanted to gather nuts. (Skills: identify, comprehend, describe, analyze, creativity).
