Happy Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May!  This holiday celebrates Mexico’s independence. Let’s party! Eat at a Mexican taqueria today. Other important fun facts:

  • It’s the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War
  • The day, which falls on Thursday, May 5 in 2022, is also known as Battle of Puebla Day
  • It commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over the French forces of Napoleon II
  • Mexico’s favorite foods include tacos, quesadillas, grilled street corn, and tamales

Homeschoolers/Educators/Parents: Sketch/color an illustration. Theme: food. Tell us about your favorite Mexican food. Read Pigling Bland and describe what the farmer wanted to eat! (Skillset: comprehension, creativity, verbal)
