The Berlin Candy Bomber (Gail Seymour Halvorsen) was born on October 10, 1920, Salt Lake City, Utah and died on February 16, 2022, at 101 years of age. Giving hungry children in Berlin a stick of gum was not enough for him. He came up with the idea of dropping small handkerchief parachutes filled with candy and gum to them as his airplane approached. “How will we know it is you?”, asked the children. “I’ll wiggly my wings,” he said. And that’s how he got his other nickname, “Uncle Wiggly Wings.” Halvorsen and his fellow pilots eventually dropped more than 21 tons of candy to hungry children after WWII from 1948-49. This wordsearch is a small token of our appreciation for his heartfelt service during those challenging times.
