What’s your favorite food? Ice cream, burgers, fries, steak, sushi, eggs benedict, or pizza? Some of the people in poorer countries such as Madagascar experience daily challenges in getting enough food to eat. Time magazine covered the topic of eating insects as a solution to food insecurity (not having enough food to eat). A few experts claim:
- insects are a cheaper source of food
- the forest in Madagascar is shrinking
- insect protein is harmless
- 2/3rds of people living in Madagascar already eat insects
- insects are high in protein and other vital nutrients
- crickets are already farmed in Canada for human consumption
- cricket powder is now being used by international aid agency Catholic Relief Services for country-wide famine relief projects
- others think insects are not safe food
